Unpicked jumpers from Freda and Jack, woven together.
Shown as part of a solo show ‘Hers & His’ at MEZZANINE in South Bermondsey

Working with yarn can be a portable practice, coming everywhere with you: the tube, Josh’s birthday, up to Liverpool seeing Dua Lipa, a fake Glastonbury festival etc. I unraveled the threads of my grandparents, smelling their smell, touching their skin cells, feeling close to them in the most unusual of places, taking them with me. Grandma would’ve loved Dua. Friends along the way offered to get stuck in to the unpicking. Most of whom hadn’t met Freda and Jack were now carefully caressing fibres that once touched their skin and smelling their smell.

Whilst unpicking, winding, setting up a loom and weaving I contemplated the stories and notches in my Grandmas life, and how Grandad intertwined with it.
Lots are now glitched and scrambled with thanks to the stroke.
